Is a Community Platform the Future of Online Shopping?

Is a Community Platform the Future of Online Shopping?

Throughout the whole of human history owning a traditional brick and mortar store has been essential for business to prosper. Not any more. The truth is, worldwide e-commerce sales have doubled since 2014 to approximately 2.5 trillion dollars, and this is likely to double again by 2021. Despite this unprecedented growth, there is one thing missing: a commerce-focused community platform. Impulse was created to fill this void and offers a chance for all businesses, of all sizes, to tap into the future of online shopping. Here's a little more on how we think our platform will alter online social shopping behaviour:

Promote Social Interaction

Social interaction has a chance to level the e-commerce playing field, offering small stores opportunity to compete with larger stores and get true online exposure. Using a metric of likes and re-beats, users will be exposed to new products every time they come on their platform through their friends’ feeds and through their recommended and trending sections. If you succeed in promoting and showcasing the lifestyle brand vibe that our users are looking for, you are bound to succeed.

Furthermore, the Impulse comments section works as a ‘miniature review’ section, providing real-time feedback on products and allowing our users to get a subjective insight into them before they decide to ‘buy’. Our research has found this level of community interaction significantly enhance customer satisfaction, brand awareness, and – ultimately – sales. The concomitant effect of this increased engagement is greater engagement off the platform though product sharing on Facebook, Twitter, and directly to your friends through Facebook Messenger (the blue button on every product – give it a try!).

Collaboration is Key

Across the globe there are thousands of individuals that hold the key to extraordinary growth for small stores through their influential position over small pockets of society. They are influencers. In 2018, Influencer marketing should be an integral part of any good business’ marketing strategy and small stores should embrace the power influencers have.

Fortunately, Impulse brings a variety stores and influencers to one place, encouraging collaboration both on and off the platform. By working together, a community platform provides the catalyst for both parties’ growth and success. Collaboration also works successfully between stores themselves.  By encouraging stores to celebrate the work done by other stores (through social interaction or some other collaborative work), they will be able to reach new customers and unlock exciting business from new parts of the world.

Progress and Growth

Online shopping presents difficulties for both stores and customers. Small stores often struggle to generate traffic and many waste a lot of their marketing budget on SEO and other, essentially useless tools to generate interest in their products. On the other hand, customers are painstakingly hopping between their favourite websites and never see the fantastic content provided by these stores. By focusing on community and store-customer interaction, Impulse helps stores easily reach their target audience (for free) and customers to discover new content. Furthermore, users can directly engage with stores through our private messenger system, which helps them to find what they are looking for and complete purchases as seamlessly as possible.  This level of progress and growth would not be possible without a proper community.

Not About Selfies

One of the key differences between Impulse and other online communities is our focus on how the platform looks. Simply put, we are looking for carefully curated profiles (think Instagram) and meaningful interaction, minus the selfies. Impulse is a chance to showcase your dream life and make a statement about your identity. It doesn’t need to be rushed. In fact, it shouldn’t be rushed. We believe in quality and you should too - de-clutter, focus hard, and simplify your life - it's a lot more fun that way.
